High School Elite Technology Curriculum
High School Elite Technology curriculum is intended for students in grades 9 through 12. The High School
Elite curriculum meets or exceeds Pennsylvania and International Society for Technology (ISTE)
technology standards. In addition, the curriculum addresses and assesses the MOUS core level objectives.
Many expert level objectives are introduced as well. The modules are designed to equip high school
students with the advanced computer skills needed to excel in school and in a variety of professional
environments.
The High School Elite technology curriculum is divided into five modules. The applications contained
within the Microsoft Office Pro Suite (Word, Access, Excel and PowerPoint), Microsoft Publisher,
Microsoft Encarta and a Web browser are used to allow users to gain essential skills in the following
technology areas: word processing, databases, spreadsheets, multimedia and desktop publishing.
Each module of the High School Elite technology curriculum is a 45-hour, 9-week long course. Each
module is composed of three sections. Section One contains six 45-minute lessons followed by an
assessment lesson. Sections Two and Three contain thirteen 45-minute lessons followed by an assessment
lesson. In these lessons, a hands-on instructional approach is used to teach the students how a variety of
computer applications can be used to complete practical and relevant projects. By design, each lesson
within a section builds upon the technology skills, the learning objectives and the content knowledge taught
in preceding lessons and sections. When the curriculum is implemented sequentially, the students have
enough opportunities to practice, and over time, to achieve mastery of the skills in all technology areas.
Each module has a culminating two-week project. Specific guidelines are given to the students to create an
independent project that can be used to reinforce the content objectives into the technology curriculum.
The High School Elite technology curriculum may be customized to meet the needs of any school.
For students without much prior computer experience, the materials in Section one of each module provides an
excellent foundation of skills. Meanwhile, Sections Two and Three provide advanced technology
instruction. The modules may be bundled and sequenced as desired to meet the needs of individual schools.
